International Standard Organization (ISO)
When the network world came into exist at that time computers are communicate to each other if they are manufactured from the same manufacturer. I t was very difficult to communicate with different manufactured. Then ISO reference model was created to remove this system and allow all system to communicate to each other. This model is known as Open System Interconnection (OSI) Model.
This Model was developed to communicate different to each using different protocols works on the different layer of OSI Model .this is the first network model created in the 1970s.This Model describe how the data and network information communicate from one computer to the other computer in the network .This model consists of seven layers-
1. Physical layer
2. Data link layer
3. Network layer
4. Transport layer
5. Session layer
6. Presentation layer
7. Application layer
There are different protocols exist in each layer and help to communicate between two computers. We can divide in to two group of layer Model –first four layers that is physical layer, Data link layer, network layer and transport layer provides end to end delivery of the data from one system to another system in the network. And the last three layer Session lalyer, Presentation layer and application layer provides the application services required for the communications between two systems.
The Advantages of OSI Model-
1. It divides the communication system into seven distinct layers to easily understand the how the two systems communicate to each other.
2. It defines different protocols that work on different layer.
3. It allows different types of hardware and software to communicate to each other.
4.OSI also provides the framework for implementing the networking standard and schemes.
OSI defines the different protocols like IP Protocol works on the network layer,TCP UDP work on the Transport layer and different protocol like Telnet,FTP,TFTP,DHCP,NFS,SMTP, SNMP, DNS work on the application. Yes we will get the knowledge of all these protocol.
